Classic Whiskey SourThis venerable classic is worth revisiting. There's a reason that your grandfather enjoyed these! And with judicious selection of whiskey and a little elbow-grease for the egg-white, you're rewarded with something very different from most of today's cocktails.

As indicated by the name, it should be tart, with just enough sweetness to take the edge off the citrus. For best results, use a sweeter, full-flavored Bourbon whiskey.

Preparation time
5 minutes
  1. Shake all ingredients vigorously. This is the "dry shake".
  2. Shake all ingredients vigorously again, now with ice.
  3. Strain into a sour glass.
  4. Garnish with a lime wheel.
The egg white gives a frothy top that you can decorate with a few drops of bitters, connected by a dragged toothpick.
