Grilled Pears

Grilled PearsThese were a showy and delicious finish to a summertime [[nodetitle:Actifio Pot-Lucks]] when we were breaking in a new grill.

They are a great option for a summer cook-out. The grilling softens and sweetens the pears, and then the final torching caramelizes them. The flavor is memorable, and so is the preparation!

It helps to have a propane torch. These were made by Jon Choate, with help from Mark Woodward and his propane torch.

Preparation time
20 minutes
  1. Slice pears in half, and remove stems and seeds.
  2. Rub with a neutral flavored oil like vegetable oil.
  3. Put directly on the grill and cook until pears are soft and slightly charred, flip once during this time.
  4. Sprinkle sugar on the inside of the pears.
  5. Caramelize sugar with a torch or under the broiler.
  6. Serve warm, with ice cream.
