This classic with the irresistible name is another great summertime gin drink for those of us among the living. I hear that the name comes from its efficacy at reviving a hangover sufferer. I have not tried it for that purpose, but it does include three drops of Pernod, which is often used in minute quantities to give a cocktail a mysterious sense of medicinal origin.
You can see from the recipe that this is not a very strong cocktail: the spirit, gin, is on equal footing with the juice, the liqueur, and an aperitif, all of lower alcohol content than the gin. This makes it a good candidate for a cocktail party, because it is visually appealing, has a buzz-worthy name, and doesn't get the guests too buzzed while they enjoy the party!
