Description

"swedish glogg"Glogg is a high-octane Swedish Mulled Wine, just the thing to armor yourself against those wintry arctic blasts!

You make it with dry red wine, brown sugar, and spices, but it gets an extra kick from akvavit, the Scandinavian caraway flavored vodka.

Ingredients
1⁄3 c Aquavit (or vodka)
3 Cinnamon sticks (2-inch)
15 whole cloves
3 sli Crystallized Ginger
2 Cardamom pods
3 sli Orange zest
750 ml Dry Red Wine
1⁄2 c Light Brown Sugar
Instructions
  1. Pour the aquavit or vodka into a small jar. Add the cinnamon, cloves, ginger, orange peel, cardamom, and raisins (optional). Cover and leave to infuse for at least a day, preferably a week. If using vodka, add a teaspoon of caraway seed.
  2. Pour the vodka and spices into a saucepan and add the wine and sugars. Stir and heat until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is hot but not boiling, about 80ºC (175ºF).
  3. Leave to cool and then sieve to remove the spices, and store in a clean bottle until required.
  4. Heat gently before serving, but don’t let it boil.
  5. Place 2 or 3 raisins and 2 or 3 almonds and a strip of orange zest in the bottom of each glass and top up with glögg.
