Mayflower Barleywine was a special limited-edition Cooper's Series Ale from Mayflower Brewing, in Plymouth, MA.
I have really enjoyed the Cooper's Series Ales. Some breweries produce special edition ales that showcase their brewers' artistry with the style, adding some unique personal insight to a traditional style. Sometimes that's fun, but often I hust want to explore the best example of what that traditional style can be. Mayflower brewers Ryan, Michael, and Josh paid close attention to tradition and then applied their knowledge of the craft to brew their best example of a Barleywine, and it is stellar.
From the label: “Developed in the early 1900s, Barley Wine is a classic English beer style that derives most of its character from the grain itself. We celebrate this heritage with a version based on a single variety of heirloom barley malt: Maris Otter. Aged in oak bourbon barrels for several months, Mayflower Barley Wine Style Ale is a rich and complex brew that will warm your soul.”
