Boston was a rum port in colonial times. Even the Great Molasses Flood didn't dampen the enthusiasm for rum in New England.
Today there are a number of rums being distilled in New England:
- New England Distilling in Portland makes Eight Bells Rum, a rich amber rum.
- Sweetgrass Winery, of Union, ME, makes Three Crows Rum
- Privateer Rum in Ipswich makes a silver and an amber rum
- Turkey Shore Distilleries in Ipswich makes a white, an amber, and two spiced rums
- Ryan and Wood Distilleries in Gloucester makes Folly Cove Rum
- GrandTen Distilling in Boston makes Medford Rum
- Bully Boy Distillers makes a light and a dark rum
- Newport Distilling (of Newport Storm beer) makes Thomas Tew Rum
- Berkshire Mountain Distillers make Ragged Mountain Rum
