Lefty's Irish-Style Stout

Lefty's Irish Stout

Name: Lefty's Irish-Style Stout

Type: Dry Irish Stout

Source: Leverett Village Coop

I tried Lefty's excellent dry Irish-style Stout on a cool fall afternoon with German beer radishes and a peculiar sausage from Maine that I may describe elsewhere (but so far I am not a fan).

This is an excellent brew, with an assertive malt profile that is kept in balance by generous but not overbearing Willamette hops and flavored with Northern Brewer hops. Six malts are fermented to dryness leaving a rich molassesy body and mouthfeel in perfect balance.

Lefty's Irish-Style Stout is not a Guinness Stout clone. It has its own flavor more like Murphy's or Beamish, but it is definitely Lefty's creation, and a mighty fine one at that.

I have to say I was dubious about this whole beer-radish thing, but I have to say it works. The malty richness of the stout is helped by the zippy flavor and texture of the white radishes.
