Pedaling through Burgundy

is another fine entry from Sarah Leah Chase, of Nantucket. The title of this and Pedaling Through Provence come from the bicycle tours of the French countryside that she used to lead. The books are full of good recipes and colorful reminiscences of her travels in those gastronomically celebrated regions.

One of the great benefits of Pedaling through Burgundy is the sense of place you get from the recipes and her little vignettes. Unlike a tome on the cooking of all of France, Chase focuses on a region smaller than Massachusetts so you really get a sense of the local foodways.

This is one of those cookbooks that I enjoy reading on a winter night.
